Ashburton is a picturesque town surrounded by rolling green hills on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. The small town centre has remained largely as it was 200 years ago and many of the Georgian-fronted houses conceal older buildings dating back to the 11th Century. During Elizabethan times it was a place of great importance as a Stannary town, assaying the tin from the mines.
Today, Ashburton is a thriving town, home to the Ashburton Cookery School, and many fine food shops, antique shops, pubs, restaurants and a wine bar.
